Halogen Free Cable

Oct 27, 2021

The environment in which a cable is to operate plays a very important role in selecting the correct materials that make up the cable. In particular, the sheath (outer protective layer) must be designed to withstand the various chemicals, (oils, cleaning solutions, etc) and mechanical stresses (abrasion, pressure, heat, UV, etc) that the cable may be subjected to throughout its life.

When subjected to a fire, PVC cables will give off intense smoke and toxic fumes.
Specially designed cables exist which do not produce large amounts of smoke and toxic fumes.

These are commonly installed in public areas such as hospitals, offices, shopping centres, in fact everywhere where safety of the public is at risk. These cables are commonly referred to as “Halogen Free”.

Nexans Olex’s Envirolex Halogen Free Cables are specifically designed to reduce environmental impact under fire conditions and assist in reducing emissions of harmful gases that may hinder evacuation process during fire.
