• Celebrating the Transformative Impact of Design, the Australian Good Design Awards were unveiled on September 20th, showcasing the pinnacle of design excellence in a grand ceremony at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney, attended by over 1000 distinguished guests from design, architecture, engineering and business sectors. 

• This year’s theme, "The Design Effect," highlighted the critical role of design in creating better products, services, and experiences, while also driving a sustainable, low-carbon future. The Australian Good Design Awards underscored how design elevates functionality, aesthetics, and business success. 

• Among the standout winners for exceptional design and innovation was MOBIWAY BOOST, which received a prestigious Good Design Award Winner Accolade in the Product Design Excellence category and MOBIWAY UN’REEL which received a prestigious Good Design Award Winner Accolade in the Engineering Design category.  

Australia, September 25, 2024 – Nexans Australia, a leader in the design and manufacturing of cable technology solutions, has been honored with the Australian Good Design Award for two of its innovative products for their exceptional design and innovation:

MOBIWAY BOOST, an all-in-one revolutionary cable spool management system that redefines industry standards, received an award in the Product Design Excellence category.

MOBIWAY UN'REEL, a groundbreaking 360° self-spinning drum that simplifies, secures, and optimises cable installation, was awarded in the Engineering Design category.  

The Jury praised Nexans MOBIWAY BOOST stating: 

“MOBIWAY BOOST is a cable spool management system that allows for vertical or horizontal stacking and includes an integrated handle for ergonomic carrying. It improves safety and efficiency for electricians by streamlining cable management tasks. The Jury recognises MOBIWAY BOOST for its innovative design that transforms cumbersome cable management into a more efficient process. Its ergonomic features and versatile design significantly enhance the daily work of electricians, promoting safer and more effective operations.” 

The Jury applauded Nexans MOBIWAY UN'REEL, commenting: 

“MOBIWAY UN’REEL is an innovative wooden cable drum with expansive steel flanges that double as wheels, creating a 360° self-spinning reel. This innovation enhances maneuverability, removing the need for a cable stand and allowing installers to easily roll, unwind, and transport cables securely. The Jury was impressed by the design team’s inventive solution to a safety need. The "wheel in the wheel" concept is a clever approach that makes the unwinding process more efficient and safer, addressing an important operational challenge.”

More than 80 distinguished jurors from around the world, including designers, engineers, architects, and industry leaders, rigorously evaluated entries based on three core criteria: Good Design, Design Innovation, and Design Impact. The Awards highlight the critical role design plays in shaping a sustainable future for businesses and society.
