Avonlie Solar Farm

The Avonlie Solar Farm is a large solar generation facility located in Narrandera, New South Wales. The project comprises over 450,000 solar panels with a total energy output capacity of approximately 245MW(DC).

The project received development approval from the Department of Planning & Environment in August 2019. Siteworks commenced early December 2021, with initial energisation planned mid-2023. Avonlie Solar Farm is directly connect to a dual 132 kV grid connection which passes through the project site about 20 kilometres south of Narrandera.

The Avonlie Solar Farm will generate approximately 500 gigawatt hours of renewable energy per year, providing a growing customer base with a diversified supply of low cost clean energy to 100,000 homes.

Generated Energy Purchase (PPA)

The purchaser of this green generated power is the Queensland government owned, CleanCo who’s aim is to put downward pressure on electricity prices to ensure integration of renewable generation and storage. CleanCo have a target to support 1.4GW of new renewable generation by 2025 helping to achieve Queensland’s 50% renewable target by 2030.

The Owner, Developer, and EPC Contractor

The owner and developer of the farm is Iberdrola Australia Limited who are 100 % owned by Iberdrola Renewables International, S.A.U.. Iberdrola is the world’s largest producer of wind power by volume, and one of the world's largest electricity utilities by market capitalisation. Iberdrola has over 55GW of installed capacity and provides energy to 34 million customer billing points worldwide.

The EPC Contractor for this project is Beon Energy Solutions who are a leader in the deployment of large-scale renewable energy and infrastructure projects, with extensive expertise in design, construction and maintenance. Beon have an enviable track record of partnering with clients to reduce costs and project timelines, leading to faster commissioning without compromising safety and quality. This experience includes the construction of nearly 2 GW of renewable generation assets and the on-going operations & maintenance activities of numerous solar farms

Distribution Partner

Nexans distribution partner is the AWM Electrical group who were established in 1916, as a trade wholesale distribution business, with over 400 warehouses across Australia, of specific significance for this project is the AWM Mansfield branch who take on a real value adding role in the renewable energy sector as a buying and project management agent. When working in conjunction with AWM Mansfield, Nexans supplied to the Avonlie Solar Farm project 162km of 33 kV MV and 613km of 1,500/1,800 V DC cables all manufactured at the
Nexans Shandong China factory.

All underground cables incorporated the Nexans ECOTERM™ termite barrier solution. ECOTERM™ satisfied a unique environmental, OH&S and chemically free termite protection solution for the project whilst aiding installation with reduced bend radii.
